2. All about the AVI’s, baby!

An AVI (short for avatar) is just a fancy name for the ubiquitous profile pictures required by nearly social media or online platform. AVI's are the fastest and most common way a user can tell who the poster is when they're scrolling through their feed. Consequently, your AVI is going to be the most commonly seen piece of marketing collateral you put out into the world, so you need to make it count.

3. Be Consistent

As DogEatCrow founder, Tres Crow, is fond of saying, "Marketing is just creativity and consistency, but mostly consistency." This principle applies to making sure your message is consistent no matter when a potential customer finds you. The simplest way to do this is to create a 1-2 sentence description of your business and use that "value proposition" as your bio across all platforms. That way, no matter where you're seen, everyone will get the same message.

4. Call to action

A Call to Action is essentially a way for you to nudge a potential customer toward your latest offer. Almost all social platforms and website management tools offer the opportunity to set a specific Call to Action for visitors, and in most cases it's super easy. Facebook, for instance, actually prompts you to create a Call to Action when you set-up your Business Page, and both Squarespace and Wix allow webpage designers to easily create pop-up boxes when visitors scroll through your website.

5. Get those referrals

Asking for referrals may seem old hat, but there's a reason it's so cliched...it works! f you're not asking for a referral from every customer, you're missing out on at least 5% bump in business. Fortunately, technology makes it easier than ever to automate asking for referrals so that you can focus on what you do best. Even with automated referral technology, there's simply no replacement for the building the practice of asking into your everyday business operations.

6. Get those reviews

Another tremendous way to boost your online profile is by always asking customers to review your organization online, preferably through Google or Facebook. Between these two platforms, they cover almost every potential customer in your area, meaning that when people are searching for what you sell, they're probably doing it on Google or Facebook. The more reviews you, the more likely you are to be found.
